Matt Sandy (born August 28th, 1985) is photojournalist and urban photographer.

Brief History with Photography

Born in Arizona he soon relocated with his mother to Minnesota where he lived until the fourth grade when he moved back to Arizona. His interest in photography as an art form started later in his life than most, his first year of college. He was interested in cameras for capturing memories more than generalized feelings until he learned he could control the subject matter to create feelings in others that looked at the photographs. His first SLR was a Pentax K1000, but shortly realized the developing costs would soon be overwhelming. He decided to try digital photography and invested in a Pentax K100D.

Because most of the photography he was doing during and after college was that of concerts, he worked mostly within low light conditions, and without a flash. A wide aperture and long exposures became prevalent in his work, and local musicians and venues grew fond of the styles he used. He started perfecting his style at the Trunk Space while working with Fizzle_Promotions. Musicians such as Porches and Uggamugg astarted using his photographs more and more.

After a while Matt Sandy decided a change of location might help his photography career and moved back to Minnesota in March of 2008. This time found a place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He acted quick and applied to get his works hanging in local coffeehouses and joined local photography groups. In Minneapolis is where he eventually stumbled across Punk Rock Bowling nights and took pictures of the musicians, including The Shortcuts. Eventually other local musicians from Minneapolis started accepting him as there official/unofficial photographer. Minneapolis musicians to use his work are The Shortcuts, Sasquatch Mountain, Similar Plaid, The Kelpies, as well as Davina and the Vegabonds.

Currently Matt Sandy resides in Uptown Minneapolis and favored camera is a Pentax K20D DSLR with a Sigma 10-20mm aspherical lens. His next excursion for photographs is planned this summer along the west coast of America with his bicycle.
