Dorabot Inc. was first founded in the beginning of 2014. By 2015, the company has already finished the A-round finance. Venture-backed, Dorabot is an innovative robotics company. It mainly focuses on the international market, aiming to develop a diverse culture inside the company by hiring people from all around the world and setting English as the daily working language. Currently, the tech team has over 30 members with an average age of 25. All team members are from renowned universities in and outside of China (GIT, Stanford University, China University of Technology, Shanghai JiaoTong University etc.) with at least a Bachelor degree in software, mechanics, or electronics related major and also profound experience in robotics.

The co-founders of Dorabot each has their own unique experience, from robotics and software engineering to logistics and Wall Street background. Despite their fairly young age, they already have sufficient experiences in their own expertise. CTO Hao Zhang has been focusing on robotics since college while presently a PhD candidate at Hong Kong University; Chief Software Engineer DD, an experienced hacker, has been in software field for over ten years; last but not the least, Business Manager, Spencer Deng, has worked for many big companies, and is very familiar with Logistics.

Dorabot has always been focusing on developing General Purpose Robot (GPR) that is specifically helpful in Logistics area while hoping one day they can invent an autonomous robot like Doraemon that can serve in households. In 2014, Dorabot entered the Amazon Picking Challenge held by ICRA 2015, leading scientists and researchers from other renowned universities and institutes in =other parts of the world to participate; the accomplishments established in the challenge set the bases for future development of robotics. Right now, 70% of Dorabot’s research centralizes on GPR, which includes Navigation, Multi-Agent Collaboration, Tactile Sensing, Grasp Planning (object recognition and pose estimation), Motion Planning, AI and learning (observe, analyze, and execute), Mobile Manipulation, and Full Body Motion Planning. In July 2016, after merely six month of hard work, Dorabot finished its initial prototype set consisting of a Picker, Runner, and Dexterous Hand. The prototypes were engineered for Logistic environment and can adapt to other indoor settings just like a GPR. the Picker contains 3D vision, which enables it to differentiate target object and obstacles to achieve collision-free motion planning. It is a general mobile manipulator that contains omnidirectional mobility and tactile-enabled grasping for manipulation tasks. the Runner is a high speed, omnidirectional mobile robot that contains automatic map building and navigation capability. Its advantages are its long battery life, low maintenance needs, and zero management requirement. the Dexterous hand has a modular design, which enables easy reconfiguration and fits to customized needs. The hand performs under actuated biomemic grasp. It is equipped with tactile sensors to measure the tactile force of the fingers. The hand can grasp irregular shape objects and fragile objects, up to 5000 grams*. A vacuum hand is available for those objects that require suction power for better performance; it can replace the hand or act as supportive equipment.
