Variants

Feminine: Kaylynn[1][2], Kaylin[1], Cailyn[1], Cailin[1], Kalyn[1], Kaelyn[2], Kaelynn[2]

Origin and Spread

A recent name, created in the mid-20th century[2]. It is a combination of the names Kay and Lyn[1], while according to other sources, it originated simply as a variant of names that begin with the sound kay- and end with the sound -lin (such as Kayla, Kaylee, and Caitlin)[2].

It is also used as an Anglicized form of the Irish name Gaelic name Caoilfhionn[2], and its variant Cailin coincides with the Irish term cailín ("girl")[3], which has given rise to the English name Colleen.

Name Day

It is an unofficial name, therefore it does not have a specific saint's feast day. However, it can be celebrated on All Saints' Day, November 1st, or on the same day as Kay.
