How do we determine what order to list series that aired during the same time period in? Wouldn't it make sense to split up the years and do it alphabetically? AweCo (talk) 04:49, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is listed as 2007. I am wondering, should we list the individual series for TD instead to add more to this template, since they have their own pages? Like 2007 = Island, 2009 = Action, 2010 = World Tour, 2011 = Revenge of the Island? I wouldn't have suggested this before since there was a shortage of space, but with how BN has spaced out and improved this template there would be room in these years for the individually titled TD season listings. Any thoughts? 10/11 in particular look like lonely years and this would give them company and make the recent years more valuable to list on their own. User:66.130.55.27, I've reverted your edit for a number of reasons. First of all, Treehouse TV actually produced new episodes of the shows mentioned; it did not simply air reruns as you claim. Second, Teletoon Retro/Télétoon Rétro deserve to be mentioned in this sense regardless of rerun status, as these were clearly spinoff channels from the main ones. Third, you added a show and a claim about another one without sourcing this anywhere; please let me know if you add citations to the corresponding articles for this (but note that one of the shows doesn't even have an article for it yet – and I'm not sure your capitalization of its title is correct, by the way). Fourth, you entirely failed to explain your removal of links to Teletoon at Night/Télétoon la nuit, the inclusion of which is obviously justified. Here are my reason why i did these changes: First, some of these shows according to their articles are actually questionable to if they actually new episodes or reruns. Second, Even if they are spinoff, it not worth mentioning here, other Corus channels rerun Teletoon originals and Teletoon itself rerun some of their originals; Cartoon Network (Canada) is also a spinoff channel but it is not mentioned, beside, Johnny Test and Totally Spies should have also been in this category since they had reran on Télétoon Rétro. Third, here the source for the show, which is in French by the way:http://www.corusent.com/home/Corporate/PressReleases/tabid/1697/Default.aspx?Id=3061 , also it is been revealed that it was going to be run on Adult Swim (Canada) by a bump as said title and and as yet to be post online. Fourth, Teletoon at Night/Télétoon la nuit also had predecessors for this category and Adult Swim (Canada) also has to be mentioned since they going to include series from this category and not just reruns. Okay, so your source for the new show is fine, but I would prefer we wait until the English-language version comes out in October and/or an article on the show is started, whichever comes first. This is because we cannot be sure of the correct capitalization of the English-language title from a single press release, and I'm fed up with moving pages back and forth based on the capitalization of a single letter. (Of course, adding the French-language title is out of the question since it wouldn't link to any feasible title here on the English-language Wikipedia.)

The Adult Swim (Canada) stuff continues to be largely unsourced. You may have noticed that I tagged the related citations at Fugget About It as having failed verification. This is because an announcement of the show simply airing (its existing episodes) on the block, even combined with a new season screening panel, is not even confirmation that the show will air the new season on the block, let alone that the new season was produced in association with the channel. What I need from you is confirmation of the Adult Swim logo appearing in the show's credits. (Same goes for "Night Sweats" and any other such shows.)

Cartoon Network (Canada) isn't really a spinoff channel of these any more than Disney Channel (Canada) is. I mean, CN was originally licensed as "Teletoon Kapow", but DC was licensed as "Teletoon Retro", so... The Retro channels, on the other hand, must be mentioned somewhere in this template because there is no question that they were direct spinoffs. Do you have a source regarding your claim about Johnny Test and Totally Spies!?

For the remaining issues: The nightly blocks, just like the Retro channels, must be mentioned somewhere in this template, but I don't think it's helpful to include all of the variations of their former names, especially since those variations don't have articles of their own, unlike the current names. Let me know which shows you think are questionable in terms of their status on Treehouse. As for the wording issue, I think we'll put that aside for now. The year 1998 should not be included in the template, and any edits that attempt to add it to the template should be considered unconstructive unless other factors are involved. Since the year 1998 has repeatedly been added back to this template by various (mostly anonymous) users, the discussion on this matter above is clearly insufficient. First of all, here is an excerpt from List of Teletoon original series (also linked from this template):

In 1998, network management decided to focus on renewals instead of new shows. This was a more cautious strategy than launching a significant number of new series as it had in the prior year.^[1]

In particular, the show Flying Rhino Junior High keeps getting added to this spurious section, along with a number of other recurring additions. Yes, the series aired on Teletoon around the time of its release, but it very clearly identifies the associated production channels in the credits, among them CBS Television and Télétoon+ (the channel in France that was at the time known simply as Télétoon, and not to be confused with the French-language Canadian channel – the name similarity may have been what originated the confusion about this, but given the other persistent additions it is clearly a hoax now). Because not a single one I've seen on Teletoon at Night's video player even mentions the channel in the credits (let alone has the production logo), while Adult Swim Canada doesn't seem to have a video player at all. Should every Nelvana show that had its first Canadian run on Teletoon count as an original? The company has always owned a portion of the channel, even before the Corus takeover. The same goes with Cinar/Cookie Jar shows pre-sale of their share in the channel. They're all Canadian productions and this was their first Canadian home ...

What should we do with the modern Nelvana productions? Corus seems to have stopped naming the specific channel the show was greenlit for in their end credits. You see this with Hotel Transylvania: The Series, Mysticons and The Zhu Zhus. All three have a generic "Produced in association with Corus Entertainment" badge at the end. I suspect that's because they're now running the same show across multiple channels (Mysticons debuted on YTV, reruns on Teletoon and Nickelodeon Canada, with another run on Teletoon Quebec) and don't want to make anything look out of place. These aren't work-for-hire service animation series for Nelvana, they produced every aspect, so I don't think they should be in a weird no-man's land of original branding because Corus wants to fool Canadian kids. - Damnedfan1234 (talk) 20:20, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not responding for so long, turns out I didn't actually have this page on my watchlist and didn't notice the new section on the talk page.

So I've thought about this quite a bit, and here's the thing: I've actually had quite some trouble with identifying shows "on the margins" of Teletoon production, so to speak, even before this major change to the credits. I've been a bit lenient in the past in terms of following explicit credits acknowledgements, but now that this has happened I feel we should stick to the rules. And the rules say that a reliable source is required.

In short, no I do not think the shows belong here. They are not Teletoon originals, they are Corus originals. In fact this is not just referenced in the new credits, it is also noticeable that Corus no longer seems to publish press releases about Teletoon's production slates (where the company used to identify original Teletoon productions explicitly).

But I also don't think we're helping Corus "fool" anyone, or even that anyone at the company is trying to do so. It seems quite obvious that they changed it as it reflects the end of production for specific channels, and indeed independent operation of said channels in general. Now they clearly appear to be treated as largely interchangeable brands where shows happen to air when it is convenient.

Something that should definitely be looked into, though, is creating a new umbrella template for all original Corus productions moving forward. Modernponderer (talk) 15:55, 15 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's solely Nelvana shows that are ending on the "Produced in association with Corus" tag. The third party originals are still mentioning the specific channel. I'm assuming that's because either Corus couldn't get branding to them in time, or they're creating that hard separation because their broadcast contracts on those shows aren't loose enough to run them on multiple channels. Obviously, this could change in the future.

You're not wrong that Corus has essentially been treating Teletoon, YTV and the other similar kids networks as interchangeable. Mysticons went from a Teletoon series, to a YTV "original series" within a few weeks. That said, I think it would be pretty odd to have something like season 4+ of Bravest Warriors not be listed as a Teletoon original because Corus gave it a generic credit. Teletoon was the first partner announced and the show is produced by their parent company.

I definitely don't think a "Produced in association with Corus" template should be a thing. Corus is a huge company, and I suspect that stamp will wind up on a tonne of shows. It'll be weird, and not particularly useful, to have a Treehouse TV show sitting next to Mary Kills People and Cheer Squad or something. If one doesn't exist, a Nelvana template would be useful. I have to say that you make some good points, but ultimately there really needs to be some confirmation that Teletoon and not just Corus in general was involved in the production of a show for it to be considered an original. Again, this doesn't have to be a logo or even anything in the credits. I've found plenty of older series that are just outright stated to be Teletoon originals by reliable sources (mostly press releases though). But if even those cannot be found, it would seem like original research to say that a Corus production is associated with Teletoon just because it happened to air there first, and even more so given the seemingly random, spur-of-the-moment decisions about which Corus channel a show actually airs on.

Same goes for YTV and other channels, by the way. As for related templates like for Nelvana or Corus in general, I'm really not so sure now. I would however recommend waiting and seeing how things develop, in no small part because we really don't know how non-Nelvana shows will be handled. I did some digging and I've found some interesting information. In their latest license renewal with the CRTC, Corus attempted to remove the requirement that Teletoon must "maintain decision-making personnel dedicated to program commissioning exclusively" for the service. The CRTC denied that request, meaning Corus is still legally required to have people comissioning shows specifically for Teletoon. In addition to that, the company is being mandated to continue operations of its Montreal office that runs the French Canada business. It appears the CRTC will not allow them to fully dissolve Teletoon Canada Inc. into Corus Entertainment.

Also, the CRTC has added this requirement: "As part of its fulfilment of conditions 3 and 7, the licensee shall submit to the Commission a separate report for each of the English- and French-language feeds for TELETOON/TÉLÉTOON in regard to the service’s expenditure requirements, and set out in its annual report relating to programs of national interest specific details regarding spending and production on both the English- and French-language markets." It seems the CRTC is now strongarming Corus into sharing the funding details behind Teletoon's original production slate. It remains to be seen if these reports will be publicly available, but assuming it names the shows (it should) we should have pretty definitive proof of their originals.

All of that said, we'll have to see how things play out in reality. Nelvana announced another new show headed to Teletoon, but in typical fashion couldn't string together "Teletoon original series" anywhere. On the other hand, I've found what might be the first non-Nelvana vaguity. Spin Master announced Super Dinosaur and in the only original report on it, the show is just mentioned for a Corus channel. I guess we'll have to see if Corus simply picked up the broadcast rights (like what the aritlce says) or if they funded part of production (which I think is likely). I plan to decommission the page List of Teletoon original series for the following reasons:

1. I made the only substantive contributions to that page. Such lack of interest from other Wikipedia editors has left the page stagnating for years without significant improvement, and with many errors and omissions. It also implies that a deletion discussion would not have any real consensus.
2. It is not clear if the list passes WP:GNG, and in fact I myself now lean to the side of its not doing so. This is despite my addition of the page header with reliably-sourced, general information about the shows on the list, because it is exceedingly rare for any reliable source (even primary, let alone secondary) to discuss the series as a group.
3. When I started the article, Teletoon was actively commissioning shows. That later slowed to a trickle – and then stopped altogether, at least judging by closing credits (see the "Nelvana" section above). A permanent list of 100-odd shows is much less useful than what I had had in mind at the time.
4. Actively edited alternatives exist: this template itself, but especially List of programs broadcast by Teletoon. The latter lists original series with airdates, but in a different order, while a simple sorted list will continue to be available via this template.

The plan is to first move the textual content to the main channel articles, and the useful lists to this talk page. After that, both are planned to be redirected and/or submitted for deletion (presumably via WP:G7), depending on how things go. If anyone has any objections, please explain your reasoning as soon as possible.

(I am putting this discussion here, and only a link on the talk page there, so that it remains visible to anyone wondering why those pages were deleted, if that does in fact happen, and also because this would be the most direct successor to that page.) Right now, the template notes shows that have moved to other Corus channels, but with Inspector Gadget and Supernoobs, newer seasons have aired outside their family. I think we should drop the specific channel mention since that change is usually covered in the show's own article. Treehouse TV aired some shows formerly or are airing currently, and that is a good thing to place down on this template for some reason.
