Why was this 60-second TV ad included in this template? It's one of several directed by Scott, none of which, in my opinion, should be cited in a list of his films. MovieMadness (talk) 21:28, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am restoring the 1984 commercial and will modify the template so that it is appropriate. While a commercial, this work is of interest to scholars (See for example, Ted Friedman's online essay,"Apple's 1984: The Introduction of the Macintosh in the Cultural History of Personal Computers"
http://www.duke.edu/~tlove/mac.htm
which was later expanded into Chapter 5 of his book, "Electric Dreams: Computers in American Culture", NYU Press, 2005). It has played a significant role in two visual works, the 1996 documentary Triumph of the Nerds and the 1999 television film, Pirates of Silicon Valley. It has also been described as a "watershed event":
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/kevinmaney/2004-01-28-maney_x.htm
and in an interview in which Scott talked about the making of 1984, it was described as a "classic":

It thus should be mentioned in the template. -Classicfilms (talk) 23:23, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
