I have removed this link twice as a violation of WP:EL and it's back.

My arguments for removing.

Page moves

Please discuss any problems with the naming of this article on the talk page before we start a page move war. Matchbox Toys is not the common name for the product and should not be used (WP:NAME). Xiner (talk, email) 20:49, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- * - * - * -

In keeping with Xiner's suggestion, here my reasoning for/opinions on name changes thus far:

The article was originally called "Matchbox (toy company)". There is and never was a toy company called "Matchbox". Matchbox is a brand owned over the years by Lesney Products, then by Universal and Tyco (under the name "Matchbox Internat'l Ltd."), and now by Mattel. I felt that if Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, then the entries should have a correct name if possible.

Thus, I changed it to "Matchbox (toys)".

Recently, it was changed to "Matchbox Toys". This, again, I feel was incorrect. As opposed to, say, Dinky Toys, where the name actually consists of two words, there is not an official trademark for the name Matchbox Toys. The old Lesney buildings did have a neon sign on them, "Lesney's 'Matchbox' toys," but the actual trademark refers only to the name Matchbox.

My feeling is that the current (4th) name, "Matchbox (toy)", is sufficient to disambiguate the product from other articles with the Matchbox name.

Ideas for other Matchbox series/items to be added

- Steer 'n Go

- Zing-o-matic

- Big MX

- German regional issues in the '60s (#25 Bedford, #32 Leyland - ARAL)

- "Golden Era" under "growth and development" - dominance of the British die-cast brands in the late-'60s

- dolls, '70s and '80s

- Thunderbirds

- Tyco-era playsets and plastic vehicles

- SuperKings (from the '80s, As far as I know)

No mention of the Matchbox Carousel line from the late 80s/early 90s? There is a dearth of information about these online. I thought they were beautiful and still have a collection, but I know barely anything about them! Gemfyre 13:13, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Too long?

I personally don't feel that this article is too long. It does cover a lot of ground, but it is structured sufficiently. Some "long" topics (Powertrack, Lesney Products) have already been moved to dedicated articles. Also, though perhaps a weaker argument, other similar articles are as long or longer. picture

One of the picture says that it shows a modern era miniature car. Nowadays Matchbox makes much more interesting models, like the DS, Guilia, Mini CLubman. This picture is outdated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.100.137.138 (talk) 01:03, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Video Games

I have just revised the grammar under the Video Games heading. It's in fine shape now, only I am curious as to the accuracy of the information. I am not a video game expert, and I do not know how to verify this, so I have left it in the current state. IdRatherBeFlying (talk) 16:51, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Awkward informal language?

'As with any other item dealing with transport, sport or similar themes, it did not take long before Matchbox models became collectable items, with rabid followings, collectors' meets, etc. The Fred Bronner Corp., American importer of Lesney toys, took a first step towards organising this movement to a small extent by creating the "Matchbox Collectors Club", which produced a polished, quarterly, 4-6 page newsletter for a small membership fee, starting in the late 1960s. The MCC was primarily aimed at younger collectors.'

...Bolded seems extremely awkward / out of place for an encyclopedic article, at least to me. Also I'm unsure of the purpose for the set-up of this section; are transportation themed goods really exceptional stand-outs among collectors' items? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.67.246.138 (talk) 04:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of model and packaging images

Hi all, cimpared to similar articles, this one lacks images illustrating how the models and the packaging and logo varied along time. Is there any reason (e.g. legal) for this? Thanks, DPdH (talk) 21:14, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tampo-printing term

What is “tampo-printing” and could that term be linked to an explanation? Or could a footnote type note be added, using a “ref group=note” and “reflist|group=note”? This and Lesney articles are great, thank you to you writers! —Doncram (talk) 19:48, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Tampo printing is a technology to print on uneven surfaces, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pad_printing Suchenwi (talk) 22:29, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
