Opening Bit

"In recent years, Hanson has received acclaim by many publications for their surprising longevity in the industry, with many critics labeling them the most talented musical act to emerge from the pop music boom of the late 1990s."

No reference. What is this, being written by their publicist? It's going.

Which is it? MMMBop or Mmmbop?

Here's the situation with redirects and disambiguation (dab) pages:

My suggestions as to actions:

  • There does not seem to be an album named "MMMBop", so I would suggest that this redirect page be deleted via {{RFD}}
  • the content of Mmmbop should be moved to and redirected to MMMBop and tagged with {{R from misspelling}}
  • MMMBop (song) should be redirected to MMMBop without an R-tag

I think it's best that I leave it to people who are more familiar with the topic to refine, advance, or reject this proposal and act upon it if that is desired. Regards, Courtland 15:47, 26 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There actually was an album named MMMBop which was released before Hanson was signed by Mercury. I'll add an album stub for it with a track listing.

Hanson are not girls. The middle child is married and has three kids, his wifes' name is Natalie

Anyone have a photo to add? --buck 14:32, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Every photo that is added are deleted over copyright issues.

If there's anyway to get around those issues, let me know. I have a ton of recent photos of them that I would love to share with the world (via wikipedia)! --Molly 06:31, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

What if someone puts a photo on that they took themselves, like at a concert or something? I have several I've taken. I'm just wondering, because those wouldn't be actully copyrighted, like one from a photoshoot would. If anyone knows if that will work, let me know. --Jena 07:45PM, 12, March, 2007 (Et)

That would be fine. You'd just upload it to WP or Commons under a free license. I have a number that I've taken as well, but the good quality ones of the whole group are from almost 7 years ago. If yours are more recent than that (and they are indeed your pictures that you have the right to release), then by all means...please! LaMenta3 18:29, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger Discussion

Support merger of individual members into current page: 1) the group members have no notability outside the group (no single projects); 2) the individual entries are identical to this one, even the personal information is repeated in this article and consists of one sentence each. Support Merge. Jtmichcock 14:00, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Unless the Hansons release solo projects, they should be redirected to this article. If a member has any notable biographical information independent of his brothers (is married, has a child, etc) it should be included in this article. --buck 15:07, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it's best to merge the three articles with the main page- prehaps have their own little section in the Hanson main page.

So is someone going to cut and past this individual info onto the main Hanson page?

Yeah, if you're going to do it part-way, let's see you do this all the way. Thanks in advance. -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 04:55, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why? Tons of other bands that have members who haven't done anything 'notable' outside their band have their own wikipedia pages, like Julian Casablancas from The Strokes. Shit, the Hanson page doesn't even mention which instrument each guy plays.

Personal life

Changes made to the personal life section should only be made if the content is verifiable by a legitamate source such as a news article or official release, or is common knowledge within the fan community. I say this because the band members are very protective of their personal lives and as such, information based upon speculation, rumor, or stalking (this includes unauthorized access to MySpace pages!) is an invasion of privacy and is inappropriate for any venue. That said, I am changing the statement regarding Isaac's supposed engagement for a final time and will leave it to other reasonable people to maintain this stance until such time that a change in this information can be VERIFIED. LaMenta3 07:21, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing the remark about Ike and Nikki's "on and off" relationship. It doesn't need to be there and is purely speculative. If you're going to throw that in you may as well slip in the same for all couples since it's been rumoured about them all. Unless you have proof of their on/off status other than your uber secret insider sources, leave it out of the article. Betterthangrant 12:26, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mess, mess, mess!!!

This article is a complete mess and shit. It has to be redone and reedited. It's complete shit. The discography sucks ass and the the bio is so shitty that I just feel hardly any interest in the band, speaking from a neutral point of view. It needs more work! shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit. How d'ya like that?

Why do people keep changing it back to 'The Walk'? Even on hanson.net news, and the video they posted up, it says it's going to be titled 'Taking The Walk'. Grrr.

Taylor has said in the July 2006 Hanson.Net chat that the name of the album will be "The Walk". "Taking the Walk" is something different. Some think it might be the upcoming tour, others think it might be the release of the SETB doc but with the making of "The Walk" added on, others think it might be just the making of "The Walk" and so on... no one is really sure yet what "Taking the Walk" truly is, but the album name is definitely "The Walk". (If you notice in the H.Net video it says "a story unfolds" - to me that indicates it's most likely a DVD release of sorts, but that's just speculation on my part and some other fans on H.Net). Crazylamb1 11:34, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In fairness, this article is a mess. It's completely biased towards the group and certainly needs some neutrality editing done. I honestly thought it was written by the band the first time i read it. Can someone flag it for its bias, or does an admin need oto do that? It really is a mess. 81.76.119.195 16:24, 30 December 2006 (UTC) It is, at the very least, unbalanced. There is way to much information about the band in the last 5 years but literally nothing about the band in 1997, when it was at its height in popularity. There is no mention in the bio of the release of their Middle of Nowhere album. It just skips that and has tons of info on Hanson in 2005-2006, though I think most people who search for the article want to know about the Hanson of the late 1990s not the current Hanson.[reply]

Reference to band member's son's "nickname" from a fan and professsional editor

Hi. I'm a bit concerned on this page about the reference to Zac's son: "...and Zac's son John Ira ("Da Crunk Shep")."

Please correct me if I'm wrong and this is some sort of family inside joke I'm not aware of; if the child's parents choose to nickname their toddler "da crunk shep," I'm not trying to intervene —— unless for some reason the child was actually getting "crunk"...then I'd be concerned. Admittedly, I'm a longtime fan, but but my interest in Zac, Taylor, and Isaac's personal lives is pretty much nonexistent compared to the attention I paid when I was 11. But I read the Hanson wiki page for the first time in years today, and I couldn't not say anything about that unedited, uncited "nickname" on wikipedia.

I'm just leaving this comment in case somebody who DOES know can clear this up. If weirdo on the internet was making up a "RapperThatDoesn'tKnowHowtoSpellThe" nicknames for any couple's young child and posting it to Wikipedia, I'd have to bring it up regardless of who the parents are or what my knowledge of the toddler's nickname was.

Either way, I hope this helps. Devon Claire devonclaire@gmail.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Devonclaire (talkcontribs) 10:16, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Charitable acts section

Firstly, "charitable acts" doesn't sound encyclopedic. Perhaps this should be changed to "Philanthropy". More importantly however, this section seems to have irrelevant/unexplained content:

1) "Hanson toured South America, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Europe and performed their first full electric shows in Australia during the 2005 "Live and Electric" tour."

This doesn't show how the tour was a "charitable act"..in fact, the way it is currently written seems to hilariously/condescendingly imply that them touring South America/Europe/Australia is "charity" on their part.

2) "The Walk tour was suspended after Isaac underwent lifesaving surgery for a pulmonary embolism.[37] Doctors treated his condition by relieving blood flow restrictions caused by excess chest muscle and scar tissue from the repetitive motions of guitar playing.[38] The tour resumed with Midwest and East Coast dates March through May, 2008.[39] The brothers wrapped up the second leg of "The Walk Tour" after playing 20 concerts in four weeks."

Not sure how having medical/health issues is a charitable act. And again, current content doesn't show how this tour was "charitable".

The above content, if irrelevant, can probably be relocated to the Band's History sections. I'm not familiar with the band, so I didn't change anything, in case the above content is in fact relevant but the actual "charitable" part was just not explained. Hopefully someone with more knowledge about this band can clean this section up. Bennv3771 (talk) 05:07, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Children's names

From what I have found here WP:INVALIDBIO I'm pretty sure the children's names can be added and shown under the section for their fathers. They aren't getting their own separate pages and from what I understand from reading that, they can be listed on their fathers page. They just can't get pages made for them as individuals. Nina878787 (talk) 20:48, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nina878787, as a brand new editor you seem to be misunderstanding the issue here. WP:INVALIDBIO has nothing to do with whether this material should be included in this article. It simply says that their relationship is not a reason to create articles about them, which no-one is suggesting.
This is a privacy issue. We do not normally list the names or exact birth dates of non-notable children.
The applicable section is WP:BLPNAME: The presumption in favor of privacy is strong in the case of family members of articles' subjects and other loosely involved, otherwise low-profile persons. The names of any immediate, former, or significant family members or any significant relationship of the subject of a BLP may be part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject.
So, the information may be included if it is necessary for complete understanding of the subject , it is reliably sourced, and there is consensus to include it. I don't think the names of their children would be necessary even if the article was about the fathers, but it is actually an article about their band, so the information is not even germane, let alone necessary for complete understanding. I don't know why we even mention the member's families, let alone list their children and birth dates. Meters (talk) 21:13, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have seen that one too. The information is reliably sourced and it's under the information about the individual members who are the children's father. I have always seen the section for individual members as also a personal life section since it gives the details of their birthday, marriage and the names of their wives and how many kids they do have. The band is known for their family and the number of kids they have as this is something that gets brought up in every baby announcement that is made when one of their wives turns up pregnant. I could understand removing it if it was listed elsewhere on the wiki but listing it under the information for the section that has the personal life details for their fathers seems okay since that is what that section is for since that section is just giving general details on their lives and not as a band. The rest of the article does that. I could see a bigger issue if it was under a different part of the wiki for the band then what it is listed under.Nina878787 (talk) 21:23, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Difficult to understand how anyone could be aware of WP:BLPNAME but instead choose to raise this as a WP:INVALIDBIO issue if they actually understood the issue. Meters (talk) 21:49, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I listed that because in one of your revisions on the bands article your summary mentioned non-notable kids. WP:INVALIDBIO is for nobility issues and linked under stuff for non-notable things and people. I thought that was more of what you had an issue with and not WP:BLPNAME. I think this issue is one that is a matter of personal opinion though. I see the individual members section at the bottom of the band article as a personal life section for the members, since the rest of the article covers the band information. That section has always mainly covered the personal life details, especially since only one out of the three members have a separate article on here. I have seen other famous people's personal life sections name and show the birth date their non-notable children. Two examples are Randy Orton and Seth Rollins, both of their personal life sections include the names and birthdays of their children and no one has ever raised an issue on their personal life sections detailing them just like no one had an issue with the kids being listed on the Hanson band page up until this year. The names have always been listed there and only got removed in a revision either late 2020 or early 2021. Nina878787 (talk) 22:06, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Again, WP:INVALIDBIO is about arguments that are invalid for whether an article should be created. No-one is suggesting that these young children should have their own articles. It is completely irrelevant to this discussion. Trying to justify your use of it is not going to help convince me that you know what you are doing. You have had an account for one day. New users often make mistakes. Just accept that you made a mistake and drop it. We are discussing whether it is appropriate to mention band member's non-notable children by name, in an article about a band. In my opinion, their names are irrelevant and contribute nothing to the under sanding of the band. Yes it's a family band. Yes they have families. We mention that, and I don't believe anyone has attempted to remove that. What has been challenged and removed multiple times is the names (and possibly exact birth dates) of non-notable children. Why is this information "relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject"? Meters (talk) 22:33, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Whether similar material is included in a few other articles is an issue for those articles' talk pages. We have many articles in which similar information is not included. Meters (talk) 22:42, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing to admit I made a mistake. I was just answering why I mentioned that because you had difficulty understanding. I was telling you that the misunderstanding was on me given how I read the summary. I know what I got wrong now. The information is relevant because it gives more of a background to the band members which is what the members section is for since that section doesn't contain band information and all the band information comes before that. That is just my feelings on why it is relevant. Someone else may find it relevant for other reasons entirely. If each individual band member had their own articles then I'd say take the information off and put it there since those articles have nothing to do with the band. I think the names being there and their relevancy is something that is a matter of opinion though and if people want to add the names or birth dates they can because people have their own opinions on what is or isn't relevant when it comes to this. Nina878787 (talk) 23:02, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Again, why is this information "relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject"? How does knowing the names of the children improve our understanding of the band? I can't think of any reason the names of their children is pertinent. Of interest to some people does not mean it is relevant and should be included. Meters (talk) 23:28, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Going to address this here now that there is a section for it. I wasn't trying to edit war as I didn't know that was a thing until today. I also didn't know about WP:BLPNAME until it was brought up here. Now that I know I won't revert back if anyone changes from kids names to the names not being there. I will add though that I do believe the names being there is relevant since the kids have been in music videos for the band and have been featured in audio clips on the band's Christmas album. That is all I have to say though and I'm sorry if my edits came off as harsh or like I was trying to cause drama as that wasn't the case. 216.30.158.95 (talk) 02:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Background band members

I believe there are a number of on stage background band members missing from the timeline such as Ravi who even published a book about them. Hello, That was quite rude and I don't appreciate your tone, but there is a section at the bottom of the page that lists their touring musicians. There are people missing from that that toured with them from the early years such as Ravi. I can't work out how to edit that section myself, and the talk page is for discussing these things. Some people have more deep knowledge into who was there at that time than me too. Grapepinky (talk) 15:17, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see anywhere in the article where we list "background band musicians". If you mean the unsourced "Touring musicians" section, we list two musicians who have apparently been touring with them for 14 years. Convince us that the article should list every musician who ever participated in even one of their tours.
Next time you can't figure out how to make a particular edit then provide us with the changes and the sources and request that someone make the edit. As it is, you are basically saying, "There is missing information. I'm not telling you where it is missing, or what is missing, or where to verify the information, but someone should fix it." I think that's quite rude and presumptuous of you, and unlikely to result in any changes. Meters (talk) 06:33, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We also don't edit based on what you or other editors' personally know. Meters (talk) 06:34, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
They only ever have two touring musicians who are listed already. The only thing that is wrong about that is Andrew has been with them since 2013 I think and not as long as is listed here. Before Andrew they had someone else whose name I'm forgetting but unless a proper source can be found for anything I'd say not to add it or change anything. I kind of also have to agree in not asking others to do the work for you. If you can find a proper source then add it yourself. Nina878787 (talk) 23:50, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
