The claim to be the first ironclad to carry 9 inch rifled guns seems wrong. Wasn't it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Prince_Albert_%281864%29 ?
Center of Gravity
As far as I understand it, raising the center of gravity makes a ship a less, not more stable gun platform. This article states the exact opposite. Loverevolutionary (talk) 18:58, 21 July 2010 (UTC) Raising centre of gravity surely worsens general stability in terms of seaworthyness, however raising centre of inertia/mass nearer to guns might just possibly minimise leverage/recoil caused by guns on firing JDN
