Much too detailed

This reads more like the intro to a Programmers' Guide than an encyclopaedia article. It should not have examples of how to use the objects exposed to the programmer (Application object, Session object etc). If you want that info you probably need the Microsoft Windows developer documentation.Sayitclearly (talk) 09:18, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Moved out

I've moved them onto a seperate page, and brought in a hints page. I agree that they are not really encyclopedia material, but it's good to have them somewhere where they can be added to.

ASPX

  • Combining the two, you've got to be kidding?
  • I dont like the idea of combining the to articles as they are not the same thing, as aspx uses the .net framework.
  • Plus aspx uses different languages and syntax than regular asp. Seems like a bad idea to merge them. Unless anyone objects I'm going to remove the merge tag. --Pboyd04 22:12, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • I think ASPX should be merged with '''ASP.NET'''. - Sikon 10:00, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • I agree, it should rather be merged with ASP.NET. ASP doesn't have a separate page for the "file format" either. - Lumpio- 00:14, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Definitely, put it with ASP.NET. Historically, ASP is very notable by itself and deserves its own page. --Allisondata 01:50, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Internet annoyances of .asp

Added comment: Dude! That's not an ASP problem. That's a syntax error by the people who wrote that page; you can't say that is some inherant fault with ASP.

Not Enough Info

This page has very little information on it.

Yes, I was surprised at that. (It's more than most encyclopedias have on the topic, of course.) Feel free to help expand it, though. — Matt Crypto 17:07, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It would be great if someone with some expertise would have another look at this. I don't know much about the subject (which is why I looked for it here) and found it impenetrable because of the jargon. Maybe it could have an introductory passage for know-nothings like me, and then the more technical stuff for those who want to know more detail. I might put a link to this page on the Computing Wikiproject page, unless anyone thinks that's a bad idea. HilJackson 14:56, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the 'jargon' statement is a bit unfair, now I take a second look. It's just that I'm annoyed because I have to look up every wikilink because I don't know what anything is! I probably shouldn't take out my ignorance on the computer scientists! HilJackson 14:57, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't understand whether ASP or ASP.net could run on a non-windows server. I've been to two different web hosts where one says they are going to offer ASP support while the other host says ASP is impossible to have on non-windows servers. I would like someone to clear this up and put it in the article. Bob Plano 02:55, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ASP support comes installed only on IIS(Windows) servers. This doesn't mean that it will not run on others, but it does require that you install specialized software such as Sun Java System Active Server Pages (for linux): http://www.sun.com/software/chilisoft/ (for example) Bryantn 20:51, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The history section is distinctly ahistorical - not a single date. Most of the articles for programming languages have a "First appeared" date, as well as some history of their development. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.87.203 (talk) 21:07, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you script without permission?

I don't understand, does this mean that people can obtain this program and vandalise any website using it?

82.14.87.191 14:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, the ASP scripts are files on the server which are executed by the server; not on your computer, the client, where your browser is. So to change a server script you would have to have write permissions on the server. sorry I tried to get this comment in the part above but it wouldn't work.122.49.165.14 (talk) 06:44, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Ruddo Smith, 66.64.214.130 18:09, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the link webmasters.am

82.198.10.??? Why should we add your website to our page? The website link doesn't add value to the article and is in violation of WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided number 11. Is there any good reason we should allow you this site? R00m c (talk) 15:41, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some how, in that little time, I got logged off. I was the edit of 209.209.140.21. Also, I know I am in violation of 3R by 2 hours. But I won't be at a computer for another 8 or so hours, so hopefully the Wikipedia community can forgive me.R00m c (talk) 15:58, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your work on this. I've yanked a lot of the WebMasters.am stuff from various pages this week. Christopher G Lewis (talk) 21:02, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Was name deliberate or inadvertent?

Did microsoft know that an asp is a poisonous snake or just didn't care? 199.125.109.43 (talk) 19:15, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probably both. But then again, ASP is also the Association of Shareware Professionals. -- Smjg (talk) 11:49, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ASP vs ASP.NET

I believe we need to separate the two technologies. There is an ASP.NET entry, so all references to that should be there. I'll make some clean up entries starting 2/28/2008 Christopher G Lewis (talk) 20:04, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalized?

The History and Sample Usage sections were blanked a couple months ago without explanation by an anonymous user. Should those be restored? 97.94.233.241 (talk) 06:15, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Alternative implementations"

I can't find any third party mentions of several of the packages listed here -- seems like there's a good chance that the entire purpose of this section may be include the external links. I'll deleting these, and keeping the section (probably renamed) only because there may be some purpose in mentioning the fact that it is possible to use some pages written for ASP on some non-microsoft web servers with appropriate software. Also, just for the record, I deleted previous section -- an even worse offender -- while inadvertently logged in with an old username I'd intended to abandon. No sockpuppetry intended. --Federalist51 (talk) 02:29, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Microsoft's first?

The article says asp is Microsoft's first server-side script engine, but my recollection is that it was the second. The first was the htx/idc mechanism based on their acquisition of Aspect Software Engineering of Honolulu and their dbWeb tool [1] . This reference and my recollection are not definitive enough for me to change the article, but maybe someone knows where to find the rest of the sequence of events in 1996. Per FrontPage KB artcles

Per FrontPage KB artcles can also use Personal Web Server 2.0 on Frontpage 97/98 CD or Personal Web Server 4.0. Shjacks45 (talk) 10:32, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
