Palm Royale is a ten-part period comedy-drama miniseries created by Abe Sylvia,[2] based on the 2018 novel Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel.[3] The series premiered on March 20, 2024, with the first three episodes.[4]

Premise

Set in 1969, outsider Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) strives to attain a place in Palm Beach high society through the town's most exclusive resort club, in the process learning what she will and won't do to achieve this.[5]

Production

It was announced in February 2022 that Apple TV+ had given a greenlight to the 10-part series named Mrs. American Pie, which would see Kristen Wiig star, and Laura Dern executive producing in addition to potentially co-starring. Abe Sylvia will write the series with Tate Taylor directing.[7] In May, Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin and Josh Lucas were added to the cast.[8][9][10][11] Carol Burnett, Amber Chardae Robinson, Jordan Bridges, Kaia Gerber and Julia Duffy would be amongst additional castings announced in June.[12][13][14]

Filming began in May 2022.[15]

The show was renamed Palm Royale in April 2023.[16][17]

Reception

The review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported a 53% approval rating based on 59 critic reviews. The website's critics consensus reads, "Palm Royale's fabulous cast and visual splendor make for a diverting enough destination, but its wayward tone results in a curiously unfulfilling trip to paradise."[18] Metacritic assigned a score of 57 out of 100 based on 31 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[19]
