Magandang Buhay (lit.'Beautiful Life') is a Philippine morning talk show that premiered on April 18, 2016, and airs every Monday to Friday at 09:00 (PST). The show was originally broadcast on ABS-CBN until the network's shutdown in 2020. It is currently broadcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z, with delayed telecast on TV5.

The original hosts of the show are Karla Estrada, Melai Cantiveros and Jolina Magdangal. Estrada left the show in 2022 and was replaced by Regine Velasquez.

Magandang Buhay is currently ABS-CBN's longest-running daily morning talk show in Philippine television, surpassing the original run of Teysi ng Tahanan.

History

Title card (2017–2018)

The title is inspired by a popular line of the same name from the drama series Dream Dad.[1]

Magandang Buhay premiered on ABS-CBN on April 18, 2016 on Mondays to Fridays at 07:30 (PST), replacing Kris TV.[2]

On June 21, 2016, the show's time slot was moved to 08:00 (PST).[3]

On March 10, 2020, the show's live audience admission was suspended following the declaration of state of public health emergency in the country due to the COVID-19 outbreak that eventually evolved into a pandemic.[4]

On March 26, 2020, Magandang Buhay was broadcast via Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic's enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.[5]

On May 5, 2020, the show was suspended after ABS-CBN permanently ceased the free-to-air broadcast operations as ordered by the National Telecommunications Commission (under the leadership of Gamaliel Cordoba) and Solicitor General Jose Calida.[6]

On June 15, 2020, Magandang Buhay resumed its live studio broadcast during the launch of cable channel Kapamilya Channel.[7]

On October 19, 2020, the show's time slot was moved to 10:30 (PST) following the launch of free-to-air channel A2Z.[8] A week later, October 26, the show's runtime was reduced to 60 minutes and aired at 11:00 (PST).[9]

On June 14, 2021, Magandang Buhay reverted its time slot to 09:00 (PST) onwards.[10]

In 2022, Karla Estrada was on temporary leave due to her commitment with Tingog Party List in the Philippine House of Representatives elections. During Estrada's absence, Regine Velasquez and Judy Ann Santos each served as guest co-hosts[11][12] Estrada returned in a taped episode aired on July 22, marking her final appearance on the program after six years.[13][14] On August 8, Velasquez officially became a regular host in the talk show.[15]

TV5 simulcast

In a trade event of TV5 Network, Inc. on November 23, 2022, it was announced that Magandang Buhay will be part of TV5's programming line-up for 2023.[16] The simulcast began on February 6, 2023 at 09:00 (PST).[17]

On June 19, 2023, the show's simulcast on TV5 was moved to an early timeslot at 07:00 (PST) with delayed telecast as a replay of episode from previous day.

On March 1, 2024, TV5 ended its delayed telecast of Magandang Buhay and would no longer be on the network due to an implement of a new programming schedule three days later.
