Before becoming an actor, Davis worked as an elementary school teacher. "I realized it was time to change careers after preaching to my students that they should follow their dreams no matter what," he said.[2]

In May 2021, Davis signed with ICM Partners.[4] In December 2021, it was announced that Davis has joined the cast of ABC's medical drama series Grey's Anatomy.[5] It was his first major role; he portrays Dr. Jordan Wright, who is from Minnesota, the favorite of Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman), and crosses paths with main character Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo).

Davis portrayed Lieutenant Javy "Coyote" Machado in the 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick.[6] Davis then starred as Degas in the 2023 film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and will reprise his role in the untitled eighth Mission: Impossible film, scheduled for a 2025 release.[7]
