Object history Painted towards the end of the Duke of Cambridge’s short life, the young Duke is aged just three or four but is dressed as a miniature adult. The portrait was probably painted between December 1666, when the Duke was nominated and invested as a Knight of the Garter and his death in June the following year. It was possibly commissioned by Queen Henrietta Maria.
Exhibition history It has rested in the Royal Collection since its original painting date.
