Abhi is a 2003 Indian Kannada language romantic action comedy film directed by Dinesh Babu. It stars Puneeth Rajkumar and Ramya, making her debut.[2] Veteran Kannada actor Rajkumar sang a soundtrack for the film composed by Gurukiran.[3] The film was remade in Telugu as Abhimanyu starring Kalyan Ram with Ramya reprising her role.
The film ran for 150 days and collected ₹16 crore at the box office.[1]
Plot
Abhi is a college student who meets a Muslim girl named Bhanu as her relatives are staying in Abhi's rental house. Abhi and Bhanu starts to know each other and begin a relationship. Due to religion differences as Bhanu is a Muslim and Abhi is a Hindu, Bhanu's father Mohammed Khan does not agree for this and eventually comes in search of Bhanu's lover to thrash him.
Abhi does not agree with Khan's behavior, where he thrashes Khan. Khan vacates the house and they all leave for Hubli. Abhi and his friends heads to Hubli and manages to talk with Bhanu. Bhanu's grandmother advises Abhi to leave the house immediately as Khan and his men will be coming from mosque after the prayer.
Abhi asks Bhanu's grandmother about the reason why Khan tried to kill him, where she replies to ask your mother. Abhi heads back to his home and ask his mother Janaki. Janaki reveals to Abhi that she is his adopted mother and reveals about his real parents Ruksana Bano and Joseph; and their assassination by Khan due to their inter-religion marriage.
Bhanu also learns from her grandmother, where she decides to give up her love for her family's sake. Bhanu meets Abhi and breakup with each other. Khan assumes that she ran away to marry Abhi and tries to kill him, where Abhi defeats Khan. Bhanu's grandmother advises Khan to stop his cruelty. Khan realizes his mistake and allows Bhanu to marry Abhi.

Reception
A critic from Chitraloka wrote that "The redeeming feature of this film is the mixture. A right film at the right time from equally right banner!"[4] A critic from Viggy wrote that " One can say, film Abhi in general, exceeds Puneet's earlier film Appu in all respect. Good film to watch".[5]
